    JUSTIN DAVID CORPIN and Daryl Samantila shared the limelight in the just concluded 1st edition of National Book Store-First Move Chess Tournament Series was held at the Robinson’s Galleria Mall in Ortigas over the weekend.

    Corpin tallied 5 points to capture the title in the Under-15 division. Jerome Saltorio and John Eric Margarito came second and third with 4 points each.

    In the Under-11 Division, Samantila, one of the top player of Adamson University emerged champion with 5 points while 2009 Las Vegas International Chess Festival titlist Stephen Rome Pangilinan settled for solo second place with 4.5 points.

    MANILA, PHILIPPINES—REIGNING 12 and under champion Paulo Bersamina and Adamson University stand out Daryl Unix Samantila shared the limelight in the just concluded grand finals of NCFP director Manuel Relorcasa age-group chess championship last Saturday at 4th Floor Perez Building , Dona Soledad cor. Australia Sts., Better Living, ParaƱaque City .

    Bersamina, also the top bet of Pasay City in this year’s Palarong Pambansa NCR meet defeated erstwhile co-leader Michelle Yaon, a 1st year high school student of St. Simon Montessori School-Calamba to finish undefeated in the 14 and under with perfect 5 points.

    La Salle Greenhills stalwart Giovanni Mejia stopped the winning run of another Pasay ace and former leader Jerad Docena to finish in a tie for 2nd to 10th placers.

    Mejia, Docena and Yaon tallied 4.0 points each, the same output of Collins Javier, John Eric Margarito, Clifford Cobsilen, Rommel Romasanta, Homel Cunanan and Michael Manansala.

    In the 10-and under category, Samantila from Malabon downed erstwhile co-leader Stephen Rome Pangilinan, the reigning Las Vegas kiddie champion, to bag the title with perfect 5 points. The Bulacan pride Pangilinan, meantime remains at 4 points in the company of Michella Felea, and Dennis Gutierrez III. Other top ten finishers were Alexis Anne Osena, Kianjo Macapagal, Joshua Navarro, Jesca Docena, Jan Cedric Gutierrez and Avel Louse Baldovia.

    NAPCA boss Boyet Tardecilla supervised the said chess fest in close cooperation with Dr. Bong Perez.

  3. Samante, Dimson top QC Batang Pinoy Chess

    MANILA, Philippines – Louie Samante and Elaine Dimson topped their respective divisions in the 9th annual Quezon City Batang Pinoy Chess Olympics on Sunday.

    Samante, who finished with 5.5 points, won the gold in the Boys 18 and below division while Dimson, who notched 6 points, took the gold in the Girls 18 and below.

    Joining Samante and Dimson in the podium were Kerby Acoba (U-16 Boys), John Eric Margarito (U-14 Boys), Richard Cabrales (U-12 Boys), James Harris Bajande (U-8 Boys), Luzzel Dacayo (U-16 Girls), Jonalyn Abajon (U-14 Girls) and Princess Jacqueline Bajande (U-10 Girls).

    The event was held at the Amoranto Multipurpose Hall in Quezon City.

    It was supervised by Bagumbuhay Chess Club President Col. Bobby Fopalan and International Arbiter and National Master (NM) Erwin Carag.
