WHY NOT 2...c5 (?). REASON - TO CONTEST WHITE'S 2.Bf4. GENERAL PRINCIPLE IS TO DEVELOP KNIGHTS BEFORE BISHOPS. (2. Nf3) PLAY MIGHT CONTINUE WITH (1. d4 d5 2. Bf4 c5 3. e3 Qb6)
On 4... Nbd7
4... Bd6, Rybka's top choice, IS ALSO MY INSTRUCTION TO GIOVANNI MEJIA. HE USED IT SUCCESSFULLY VS. PLAYERS USING LONDON SYSTEM LIKE MELWYN KENNETH BALTAZAR.
On 8... c4
I DON'T SUGGEST 8...c4 IN THESE KIND OF POSITIONS. IN THE LONG RUN, THIS ONLY COMPOUNDS BLACK'S PROBLEMS. (BAD LIGHT SQUARE BISHOP AND RELIEVING THE TENSION IN THE CENTER.)
On 10... Nxe5
BUT 10...Nxe5 DOES NOT RELIEVE THE PRESSURE.
IN MY OPINION, THIS MOVE WILL LEAD FOR BLACK TO BE MORE CRAMPED.
On 11... Nh7
THE CONTINUATION 11...Nh7 IS NOT THE BEST SQUARE FOR THE KNIGHT.

ReplyDeleteOn 2.Bf4
The 2.Bf4 plan is similar to the London System and wants to avoid the normal QGD lines. The main idea is to build up towards the K-side w/ its outpost on Ne5 and possible K-side advance. The best way to counter this is a timely opening up in the center or a Q-side advance.
On 4... Nbd7
Rybka's #1 choice is 4... Bd6 and I do agree with it; challenging the Bf4 and controlling e5.
On 6... O-O
Castling should be delayed and instead try to develop w/ natural c5-b6-Bb7.
On 8... c4?
Because Black has already castled, it is clear that a K-side attack is coming. But c4 gives up the tension in the center. Black should continue w/ the normal b6-Bb7.
On 9... h6?
A common mistake in defense. As a rule, do not advance your pawns in front of your K because this makes it easier for the opponent to open up lines since there is already a weakness/target.
More consistent with the position is 9... b5.
On 15.Qh5
At this stage, Rhal ws able to defend properly and it is difficult for White to break through especially w/ f7-f5 option for Black.
On 16... Qg4?
One should always be alert in the tactical possibilities - 16... g5!
On 18... h5?
This fixes the K-side and concedes the g5 square. Instead 18... Qh5 is equal.
