    According to Chessgames.com Opening Explorer, the main line is 4. Bb5 with 427 games. Rhal's chosen 4.dxe5 has only 26 games. However, 4. dxe5 gives a slightly higher winning record of 61% as against 4.Bb5 with 58%.

    Rhal has a practical answer to the Philidor Defense, which he is not familiar with.

    His opponent's 12... g5 is a self-inflicted weakening of his castled position. The follow-up 13... g4 loses a pawn and the rest is just a matter of technique.
