  2. Cobsilen's 5. Nxc6 is the second most popular move with 612 games with 31% winning percentage for White. This was popularized by World Champion Kasparov in his World Ch Match with Short in 1993.

    But the most popular is still 5. Be3 with 899 games with 33% victory for White: Nakamura vs Grischuk in European Cup 2009, Carlsen vs Leko in Pearl Spring 2009, Morozevich vs Ivanchuk in World Blitz Ch 2008, and Chao vs Torre in Arroyo Cup 2008, among others.

Qf6 which was played in 586 games with 25% win for Black: Stevic vs Shirov in Olympiad 2010, Morozevich vs Leko in Tal Memorial 2009, McShane vs Short in London 2009, Radjabov vs Topalov in Corus 2008, Anand vs Aronian in Bilbao 2008, Rublevsky vs Grischuk in Candidates 2007, among others.

    The alternatives are rarely played: bxc6 with 56 games and dxc6 with Merely 2 games.

  4. 6. Qd2 and Qf3 are the usual reply.

    And Black often replies with 6... bxc6 (92 games with 20% win record for Black). Rhal's choice of 6... Qxf3 leads to a draw most of the time but Offers a higher winning Record for Black at 21%: Zhang vs Akopian in Olympiad 2006, Vallejo vs Kramnik in Linares 2004, and Najer vs Naiditsch in Aeroflot 2007.

  5. 8... Bxe3 is Andreikin vs Howell in World Jr Ch 2006 which resulted to a draw.

  6. Howell continued with 9... Nf6 while Rhal played 9... Ne7 with no where to go to.
