APSSO

The 4th Asean Primary Schools Sport Olympiad (APSSO) shall be held in Jakarta, Indonesia from 4 November to 11 November 2010.


Department of Education has appointed National Master Erwin Carag, also Head Coach of La Salle, as Delegation Coach of the Philippine Chess Team. He also coached last year's team composed of Gio Mejia, Matthew de Leon, Rhal and Shania Mendoza. However, for this year, only Rhal is qualified to play: primary level and born 1998.


This year's team is composed of kiddy stand-outs Daryl Samantila of Adamson, Stephen Pangilinan of Christian Ecclesiastical, Marie San Diego and Rhal of La Salle.

  1. Michelle Ho (FIDE-rated Squad), CM Derek Lim (Silver Squad), Ryan Ow (Silver Squad), and Benjamin Yick (FIDE-rated Squad) have been nominated for selection to represent Singapore at the APSSO 2010.

    RP CHESSERS VYING ASEAN PRIMARY SCHOOL SPORTS OLYMPIAD IN JAKARTA

    MANILA---Amidst a promise of better showing, the crack 4-man Philippine team to the ASEAN Primary School Sports Olympiad 2010 (APSSO) Chess Championships leaves for Jakarta on Wednesday via Philippine Airlines.
    Led by Palarong Pambansa Mandaluyong meet Vice Champion Raul "Rhal" Sol Cruz of La Salle Green Hills (LSGH), Daryl Unix Samantila of Adamson University, Marie Antoinette San Diego of Cavite, and Stephone Rome Pangilinan of Bulacan, the Filipinos will see action scheduled on November 4 to 10 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
    Organized by the Ministry of National Education and The Directorate of Kindergarten and Elementary School Education of Indonesia, APSSO, an annual sports competition event at elementary level was created to improve and develop sports at an early age promoting an intelligent and strong young generation that foster friendship, sportsmanship and respect with fellow athletes. It is participated by 10 countries composed of Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Brunei and Philippines. Included also in the competition are sports event football, table tennis, badminton and athletics.
    "We expect these young and talented players to perform well as usual and bring honors to the country," said International Arbiter and National Master Erwin L. Carag, RP head coach.
    "Most of these players did very well during the ASEAN age-group chess championships held in Subic, so it will not be a surprise that they will perform just as well in the ASEAN level," added La Salle Green Hills (LSGH) Head Coach Carag, who bagged the Best Coach for 86th NCAA chess tournament.
    Head of Delegation is DepEd`s Mr. Feliciano 'Len' Toledo.
