AGUILA MEMORIAL CUP

    The AGUILA MEMORIAL CUP is sponsored by the MERALCO Chess Club in honor of its former coach Teodoro Aguila who passed away in 2006.

    The participants were 1 grade school (Junior), 2 high school (Joseph and Justin), 2 retirees (Lilet and Koyang Danny), and members of the MERALCO Srs. Team (Abet, Romy, Edson, Jonathan, Lawrence and Teddy).

    Junior bagged the Best Grade School Player medal not because he was the only grade schooler but because he managed to hold his own vs the veterans and even managed to win a game vs a senior player.

    The win over a senior player is Junior's 5th in his budding chess career (1st was Jimmy in the Tahanan Walang Hagdanan Outreach Match, 2nd was Rolly Sapalasan of MERALCO Chess Club in Halloween Blitz, 3rd was Alex in LSGH try-outs, 4th was Alvin in MERALCO vs LSGH Meet).

    The Over-all Champion is newcomer Jonathan SANTIAGO of SCADA. It was actually a 2-way tie with Abet Casiano but Jonathan won their encounter.

    Lilet Bersamina edged Danny Deggolado by half a point for the Best Retiree.

    Justin Lim was the Best High School Player and Junior got the Best Grade School Player medal for his win over Lawrence of Call Center.
