  2. After 18 e5?, Rhal got the advantage with 18... fxe5. However, he missed the correct follow-up - 19... Bf5 which allowed FM Leo to recover.

  3. After the 26th move and with only 6 players left, FM Leo requested for clocks. The players were given 10 minutes each and Rhal got into time trouble and lost.

    FM Leo won in 20 boards and has 2 draws with San Beda-bound Cruz and Talan. Rhal was the last to finish though.

    1. This is Rhal's second encounter vs FM Leo. In their first meeting in the Meralco Team Training Simul in Feb 2012, the same opening was used but with 8.Nc3.

    1. Rhal's continuation of 5... Bd6 ranks 4th in popularity with only 24.5% Black Wins vs 31.3% for White.

      The move with the higher percentage of Black Wins than White's are 5... Be6 with 46%, 5... Qd6 with 35%, 5... Qf6 with 34% and 5... Ne7 with 32%.

    2. 5... Qxd6!? is one of Black's best options - after 6 Na3! b5 (6... Be6 7 Qe2 f6 is also possible) 7 c3 c5 8 Nc2 White plans both a4 and d4, and so has a tiny edge.
