FEU WOODPUSHERS TOPS LOLA INE KIDDIES CHESS BY: MARLON BERNARDINO JOSE CARLO CASTRO of Far Eastern University (FEU) topped the "Lola Ine" Kiddies Invitational Chess Tournament last Saturday at Meralco Headquarters in Ortigas, Pasig City. Castro, a Shell active chess finalist beats Mark Villarante, Jonalyn Abajon (NBS Top Lady), John Domondon, Gil Ruaya (Taytay District Champion), and Rhal Sol Cruz Jr (Mandaluyong District Vice-Champion) to win the gold medal in the 5-round rapid with NM Ed Agagon as arbiter. Gil Ruaya of Taytay National High School and Michael Alcantara of Ramon Magsaysay High School won the silver and bronze, respectively. Top Lady went to Virginie Ruaya of Taytay National High School, who edges Nerissa Ferrer of Magsaysay High School. The tournament was held as a thanksgiving for the 89th birthday Virginia Javier Macalanda, the only surviving ancestor of Meralco Chess Club President Rolly Sol Cruz.
